Welcome to my 2nd Grade Class! Your child is being offered a program which provides developmentally appropriate activities and an exciting environment in which to learn! We invite you to support and participate in your child’s education!
ATTENDANCE
Consistent attendance is essential for your child to obtain the maximum benefit from our program. School hours are 8:30-3:30. Please note that the school building will be locked until 8:30 am, students may not be dropped off prior to 8:30. School starts at 8:45, if your child arrives after 8:45 he/she is considered tardy. Please send a note if your child is tardy, will be picked up, needs to be dismissed early, or is returning to school after an absence. You must always sign your child out in the office.
WATER BOTTLES
Our school is not air conditioned; therefore, our classroom gets very warm during the warmer months. Students are permitted to bring water bottles to class; however, they may only be filled with water. I suggest wrapping their bottle in a "sock" so it doesn't sweat all over their desk and school work.
CLOTHING
Please make sure your child is dressed comfortably and appropriately for school. Please send a sweatshirt or sweater for your child in the winter as it may be chilly in our room. Children should wear tennis shoes for PE activities. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for recess, including coats, gloves, boots and hats. Children will go outside for recess if the temperature is above 30 degrees. Please remember to label your child's belongings!
HOMEWORK
I would like your child to read for a minimum of 15 minutes each night, 5 nights a week. I'd also like them to complete 15 minutes of math facts each night, 5 nights a week. They should record their books and math facts on their Reading/Math Facts Log and return to school every Monday. All other homework will be sent home in your child's Take Home Folder so please be sure to check this folder every night.
TAKE HOME FOLDER
Your child's Take Home Folder will be used to send items home from school. PLEASE CHECK THIS FOLDER EVERY DAY. Please use this folder to send homework, notes, etc., to school. It will be your child’s responsibility to deliver the contents to me each day; therefore, it is essential for you to review and remove the contents before school the next day.
CONFERENCES
Parents and children are invited to attend two parent/teacher conferences held in November and February.
BIRTHDAYS
We love to celebrate birthdays! Your child may bring in a treat to share with the class. Birthday treats will be passed out to our class only, during lunch in the cafeteria. If your child has a summer birthday you may select a day, during the school year, to bring a treat in if you'd like. Birthday party invitations will be distributed only if all students are invited.
SCHOOL PARTIES
We will have four school-sponsored parties: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Last Day of School. These parties are planned by PTO. If you would like to volunteer for these celebrations, you may sign up when information is sent home in September.
CONTACT INFORMATION
Please contact me if you have a question or concern about your child. If something is upsetting your child, please let me know so we can work out a solution together! You can send me a note, call the school and leave a message for me to return your call, or you can email me at [email protected].
I am looking forward to getting to know your child and having a wonderful year!
